Nowadays, more and more audio-visual archives institutions expand their research from archival collection to application. From 2017, SAVA (Shanghai Audio-visual Archives) has been involved in the production of Shanghai Chat as the mode of "Shanghai Audio-visual + Dialect Program". Each program has different themes, each theme is all about the life in old Shanghai, including food, clothing, housing and transportation, etc. At the same time, a well-known actor commentates on the audio-visual archives in Shanghai dialect, reproduces the scene of Shanghai life by oral and body languages in order to tell the stories of Shanghai. In order to spread the Shanghai image further and have a wider audience, Shanghai Chat has not only broadcasted in the local television, but also pushed in SAVA Official WeChat Application as short videos.
The audio-visual archives of Shanghai used in the production of content, aims to disseminate the local history and culture of Shanghai, to arouse local memory of the aged in Shanghai, to promote the young generation and the new Shanghai residents understand the culture and history of Shanghai City, thus inheriting humanistic spirit, integrating into the development and construction of the city.
