In October 2017 RTÉ Archives began a project that aims when complete to publish and make available online 14 years of RTÉ News. This presentation is not of the ‘how we did it’ variety because we are still in the process of making RTÉ News from 1985-1999 available through our website. In fact we expect to be working on this news collection for a number of years to come. Instead we would like to share our experiences to date and the challenges we are meeting.
At the time of writing there are 3,140 news reports available at https://www.rte.ie/archives/collections/news/
How do you present 14 years of news reports to the public? Can you publish your catalogue records? Is there a downside to publishing your news collection? Can a project like this be used to embellish your archive’s catalogue? This presentation will use practical examples of the issues, challenges and rewards we are meeting in publishing the RTÉ News Collection.
